1964年10月16日，中国第一颗原子弹爆炸成功，震惊世界。1967年，我国第一颗氢弹爆炸成功。随后，伴随着人造卫星上播放的《东方红》乐曲，我国向全世界宣布掌握了人造卫星技术。

China successfully exploded its first atomic bomb (原子弹) on Oct 16, 1964, shocking the rest of the world. It was followed by the successful explosion of a hydrogen (氢) bomb in 1967. Later, a satellite with a recording of the tune of Dong Fang Hong declared (宣布) to the world that China had mastered satellite technology.

新华社评论说，原子弹、氢弹和人造卫星技术，让我国达到了世界科学技术发展的制高点，提升了我国的国防实力。

The bombs and the satellite enabled China to reach the commanding heights of global scientific and technological development and enhance (提升) the strength of the country’s national defense (国防), commented Xinhua News Agency.  

很多人在这些震惊世界的成就中贡献了自己的力量。今年1月去世的93岁高龄的著名核物理学家于敏，就是其中一员。

Many people made contributions to these world-shaking events. Yu Min, a famous nuclear physicist who passed away in January at the age of 93, was one of them. 

在攻克氢弹设计难题时，于敏是最重要的科学家之一，被誉为“中国氢弹之父”。2015年，国家主席习近平向于敏颁发国家最高科学技术奖，这是我国最高的科学荣誉。

Yu was one of the leading scientists who were able to overcome obstacles (障碍) in the design of the hydrogen bomb. Known as the “father of China’s hydrogen bomb”, he was presented with the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award by President Xi Jinping in 2015. It is the nation’s highest scientific honor.

然而，于敏却把成就归功于整个团队。

However, Yu said the achievement belongs to the whole team.

“一个人的名字早晚是要消失的，能把自己微薄的力量融进强国的事业之中，也就足以自慰了。” 于敏在接受《中国日报》采访时表示。

“A man’s name will vanish (消失) in time, but if he can contribute slightly to the nation’s prosperity (繁荣), he will be satisfied,” Yu said, according to China Daily.
